Bulk Charcoal, Bulk Activated Carbon, Bulk Activated Charcoal

Activated Carbon Charcoal Air Filtration, Air Cleaner, Purifier, Scrubber Adsorbent for Chemical Fumes Gases Odor

Air filtration systems, air cleaners, air purifiers, and air scrubbers use the power of activated carbon activated charcoal.

  • What it does and how it works.Activated Carbon Charcoal Filtration Adsorbent for Fumes Gases Odor
Activated carbon is carbon that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. There are so many of these that one pound has a surface area of 60 to 150 acres
  • The technology used in military gas masks.
Activated carbon is the substance that keeps military personnel safe from poisonous gasses. It is also used for water filtration.
  • Adsorption (Adsorb)
Adsorption is the process where certain chemicals are attracted to activated carbon and then bond to it. The millions of pores provide enormous surface area to trap these chemicals. Indeed, activated carbon / charcoal air filtration is a recommended adsorbent for chemical fumes ,gases, and odors.
  • The bigger the filter, the more activated carbon, the more chemicals it adsorbs and the longer it keeps on working.
Acts like a sponge. When it is full it can adsorb no more. The more carbon you have the more you can adsorb before changing the filter. Allerair MAC-B™ carbon filters have from 7 to 160 pounds and will last from 9 to 24 months. Most off the shelf air cleaners, air purifiers, have only a few token ounces sprayed on a mesh. It's not enough to have any useful long term effect.
  • Call 1-800-626-0664 for help in choosing the right modelImpregnated activated carbon
Catalysts can be added to enable it to attract non-carbon based chemicals. These special blends of activated charcoal are available for Allerair air filtration systems, air cleaners, and air purifiers. Our air quality experts will recommend the right solution to any air contamination problem you encounter.

Enjoy the benefits of clean indoor air

  • Activated carbon, combined with HEPA filtration, UV Light, is the technology that can safely and economically clean your indoor air. It is used in Allerair air filtration system, air purifier, air cleaner, and air scrubber.
  • Refer to illustration above: 1) Pre-filter, 2) The MAC-B™ carbon filter, 3) Anti-microbial filters, 4) HEPA filter

Libraries and Archives

Libraries & Archives

Libraries and archival institutions are meant to keep history alive for future generations to explore and learn from. However, they often harbor more than just information. Libraries and archive rooms are breeding grounds for mold; they are usually loaded with dust particles and other harmful airborne toxins and should not be dismissed when considering IAQ (indoor air quality).

Books are breading grounds for mold. Moisture is often trapped in the pages of older, antique books and becomes the perfect place for mold to grow and live. Mold spores spread around the library or archival institute and can infect other books and documents with mold growth. To eliminate the possibility of mold infection and the inevitable destruction of the books or documents with mold growth, proper ventilation is the key. If a book or document is extremely delicate, rare or one-of-a-kind, then a hermetically sealed casing should be considered for both the protection of the book/document and those who need to work with it and touch it. Paper, both pulp paper and rice paper, is porous and therefore capable of containing mold and volatile organic compounds.

To protect both staff members and books/documents in libraries and archives, consider the benefits of an air purifier that can easily be integrated into the duct system that already exists in the building like the BreathEasy Central Air series. For more severe cases of mold growth that already exists, or a delicate artifact, consider a Home and Office standalone air filtration system with activated carbon chemical filter and medical-grade HEPA. The BreathEasy Series is the efficient, smart way to ensure the IAQ of libraries and archival rooms are maintained. Larger units can be integrated into already existing ducting systems to properly scrub the air of mold spores and other airborne toxins.

Yes, you can literally breathe easy, breathe cleaner air, at home, in the workplace, in the office, wherever that may be, with the help of our BreatheEasy line of air purifiers, cleaners, air filtration systems.

Formaldehyde Toxic Chemical Fumes Gases Odor

A Possible Source of Health Problems

Formaldehyde is a chemical widely used in many building materials and household products. According to the Environmental Defense Scoreboard it is ranked as one of the most hazardous compounds to ecosystems and human health.

Possible Health Problems

Exposure to formaldehyde affects people differently. Some experience no adverse reactions when exposed to moderate levels, while others do, even after low exposure. This colorless, pungent gas can cause one or more of the following health problems:

  • CoughingFORMALDEHYDE TOXIC CHEMICAL FUMES GASES ODOR
  • Dizziness
  • Eye irritation or watery eyes
  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Lethargy
  • Nausea
  • Nose irritation
  • Skin rashes
  • Throat irritation
  • Upper respiratory tract irritation
  • Wheezing

Possible Sources in the Home

Formaldehyde exists in every home to some degree. The concentrations in the home vary depending on the age of the home and the quantity of pressed wood products. Here is a partial listing of products that may contain formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasing agents.

  • Adhesives
  • Air fresheners
  • Carpet backings
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Cosmetics
  • Drapery fabric
  • Dyes
  • Fiberboard
  • Floor polishes
  • Fuel burning appliances - wood, kerosene or natural gas
  • Glues FORMALDEHYDE TOXIC CHEMICAL FUMES GASES ODOR
  • Household liquid scouring cleaners
  • Household rug and upholstery cleaners
  • Markers
  • Paints
  • Paper products
  • Particle board - furniture, fixtures, cabinets
  • Permanent press clothing
  • Plywood paneling resins
  • Rug and upholstery cleaners
  • Scatter rugs and bath mats
  • Sheet vinyl flooring
  • Toilet bowl cleaners
  • Wall coverings

Steps to Reduce Exposure

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends taking the following steps to reduce household exposure to formaldehyde:

  • Use "exterior-grade" pressed wood products (lower-emitting because they contain phenol resins, not urea resins).
  • Use air conditioning and dehumidifier to maintain moderate temperature and reduce humidity levels.
  • Increase ventilation, particularly after bringing new sources of formaldehyde into the home.

Other steps include:

  • Buy formaldehyde-free products.
  • Wash permanent press clothing prior to use.
  • Avoid products that contain these formaldehyde releasing agents such as bronopol, diazolidinyl urea, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl, and quaternium 15.

About Air Filtration Systems for the Printing Industry

Printing - Graphic Arts

About Air Filtration Systems for the Printing Industry from Quatro Air Technologies

Quatro Air has specialized in the print industry for the past 19 years and provides numerous printer manufacturers with an OEM solution adapted to their needs. We provide 4 different types of systems to the printer marketplace:

  • The first type of system provides humidity control for the print environment.
  • The second type of system is our Fresh Air series which can provide air recirculation for both dust control (Hepa filters capture 99.97 % of particles as small as 0.3 micron) as well as VOC and odor control.  As most large format printers are aware, off-gassing from the print material doesn’t stop the instant that the material has printed.  As one of our first products 19 years ago Quatro Air has shipped Fresh Air purifiers to thousands of print houses around the world.
  • The third type of equipment is used in ablative processes such as CTP; the AF400, AF800 and the CSA can be used in these applications; talk to our experts to see which solution best fits your application.
  • The fourth type of system provides dust free positive or negative pressure environments for specific print applications as well as new innovative technology geared towards odor removal.  We offer some standard units with a combination of easily replaceable pre-filter sections, true HEPA filters and activated carbon for VOC and odor elimination.  For customers who produce a lot of particulate material we have a number of solutions with large, easy to replace dust bags that can capture a tremendous amount of particulate without reducing the effectiveness of the system.

All of our systems are UL/CSA/CE certified and are available in 110V or 230V versions for shipping internationally.  Call us today about your printing application, no one has more experience in the print industry when it comes to clean, odor-free air.

CHEMICAL FILTERS, Activated Carbon, Activated Charcoal Filtration for odor gas fumes removal control

CHEMICAL FILTERS

HEPA filters and traditional ventilation filters only remove particulate matter and therefore some other means must be employed to treat and remove gases, odors and vapors.  A commonly used and readily available product to achieve this goal is activated carbon.

Activated carbon can come in many shapes, sizes and forms.  Traditionally raw substrate materials such as coal, wood, peat-moss and coconut shell are thermally processed to produce an air filter quality activated carbon.  A Virgin non-impregnated activated carbon is useful in the removal of general volatile organic compounds (VOC's) or hydrocarbons.  It’s uses are widespread, and are frequently applied as a general purpose catch all material for non-critical applications.

For more specific and critical gas phase control, activated carbons can also be impregnated with specialty chemicals.  This is done to enhance the removal efficiency and capacity for a specific contaminant that is not effectively captured by the virgin non-impregnated activated carbon.  Common impregnates include phosphoric acid, sodium and potassium hydroxide. iodine, potassium permanganate and sulfur to name a few.

It is extremely important to realize that there are thousands of different types of carbons available on the market and the appropriate carbon must be selected for the specific application.  That is to say that if you have purchased a “BLACK” carbon it is not necessarily what you need.  For the novice, making media selections is often the most difficult aspect of the gas-phase filtration design process.  Please feel free to contact us at Quatro and use our in-house chemical engineers to evaluate your needs for your specific application.

Activated Carbon, Activated Charcoal - What it does and how it works.
Activated carbon is carbon that has been treated with oxygen to open up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. There are so many of these that one pound of activated carbon has a surface area of 60 to 150 acres

The technology used in military gas masks.
Activated carbon is the substance that keeps military personnel safe from poisonous gasses. It is also used for water filtration.

Adsorption
Adsorption is the process where certain chemicals are attracted to activated carbon and then bond to it. The millions of pores in the activated carbon provide enormous surface area to trap these chemicals.

The bigger the filter, the more activated carbon, the more chemicals it adsorbs and the longer it keeps on working.
An activated carbon filter acts like a sponge. When it is full it can adsorb no more. The more carbon you have the more you can adsorb before changing the filter. It will last from 9 to 24 months. Most off the shelf air cleaners, air purifiers, have only a few token ounces of activated carbon sprayed on a mesh. It's not enough to have any useful long term effect.

Impregnated activated carbon
Catalysts can be added to activated carbon to enable it to attract non-carbon based chemicals. Our air quality experts will recommend the right solution to any air contamination problem you encounter.

Avoid second-hand smoke

The best way to protect your family from the health effects of second-hand smoke is to quit smoking and make your home and car 100% smoke-free.

What is second-hand smoke?

Second-hand smoke is what smokers exhale and what rises from an idle burning cigarette, cigar or pipe.

Second-hand smoke spreads from one room to another even if the door of the smoking area is closed. Also, harmful chemicals can cling to rugs, curtains, clothes, food, furniture, and other materials, and can remain in a room or car long after someone has smoked.

If anyone is smoking in your car or home, you and your family are being exposed to second-hand smoke.

No level of ventilation will eliminate the harmful effects of second-hand smoke. Opening a car or room window or turning on a fan may cause the smoke to be blown directly back inside.

Air fresheners only mask the smell of the smoke and do not reduce the harm in any way. Even air filters (air purifiers) cannot remove all of the cancer-causing agents.

Health risks

Did you know?

Second-hand smoke is especially dangerous to children because their lungs are still developing. Many chemicals in second-hand smoke can even pass through a pregnant woman's placenta and reach the fetus.

Second-hand smoke hurts everyone. It contains the same 4,000+ chemicals that are inhaled by a smoker. At least 70 of the chemicals found in second-hand smoke are known to cause cancer.

People who breathe second-hand smoke are at risk for:

  • heart problems
  • lung cancer
  • emphysema
  • breathing problems (like asthma)
  • chest infections
  • ear infections
  • excessive coughing
  • throat irritation

Unborn babies are at extra risk for: | More – the rest of the article |

SECONDHAND SMOKE CIGARETTE TOBACCO SMOKE AIR CLEANER AIR PURIFIER AIR FILTRATION SYSTEM

What is Secondhand (second hand) Smoke?

  • Secondhand (second hand) smoke is a mixture of the smoke given off by the burning end of a cigarette, pipe, or cigar, and the smoke exhaled from the lungs of smokers.
  • This mixture contains more than 4,000 substances, more than 40 of which are known to cause cancer in humans or animals and many of which are strong irritants.
  • Secondhand (second hand) smoke is also called environmental tobacco smoke (ETS); exposure to secondhand smoke is called involuntary smoking, or passive smoking.

Secondhand Smoke Can Cause Lung Cancer in Nonsmokers

  • Secondhand (second hand) smoke has been classified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a known cause of lung cancer in humans (Group A carcinogen).
  • Passive smoking is estimated by EPA to cause approximately 3,000 lung cancer deaths in nonsmokers each year.

Secondhand Smoke is a Serious Health Risk to Children

  • The developing lungs of young children are also affected by exposure to secondhand (second hand) smoke.
  • Infants and young children whose parents smoke are among the most seriously affected by exposure to secondhand (second hand) smoke, being at increased risk of lower respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis.

Disclaimer: Espitech Air Products disclaims all warranties, implied or otherwise, that anyone (non-smoker or smoker) who installs our air purifiers, air cleaners, or air scrubbers as an alternative to seeking a smoke free environment will be protected from the health risks caused by exposure to second hand (secondhand) smoke.

Frequently Asked Questions - WHAT IS A HEPA FILTER?

WHAT IS A HEPA FILTER?

HEPA filters, by definition, remove at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 micrometers (µm) in diameter. Some manufacturers use HEPA material in their filters and claim that these are HEPA filters. Quatro Air certifies our filters as HEPA which means that they go through a vigorous testing procedure and meet medical standards for filtration.

HEPA filters are composed of a mat of randomly arranged fibres. The fibres are typically composed of fiberglass and possess diameters between 0.5 and 2.0 micron. Key factors affecting function are fibre diameter, filter thickness, and face velocity. The air space between HEPA filter fibres is much greater than 0.3 μm. The common assumption that a HEPA filter acts like a sieve where particles smaller than the largest opening can pass through is incorrect. Unlike membrane filters, where particles as wide as the largest opening or distance between fibres cannot pass in between them at all, HEPA filters are designed to target much smaller pollutants and particles. These particles are trapped (they stick to a fibre) through a combination of the following three mechanisms:

  1. Interception, where particles following a line of flow in the air stream come within one radius of a fibre and adhere to it.
  2. Impaction, where larger particles are unable to avoid fibres by following the curving contours of the air stream and are forced to embed in one of them directly; this effect increases with diminishing fibre separation and higher air flow velocity.
  3. Diffusion, an enhancing mechanism is a result of the collision with gas molecules by the smallest particles, especially those below 0.1 µm in diameter, which are thereby impeded and delayed in their path through the filter; this behaviour is similar to Brownian motion and raises the probability that a particle will be stopped by either of the two mechanisms above; it becomes dominant at lower air flow velocities

Diffusion predominates below the 0.1 μm diameter particle size. Impaction and interception predominate above 0.4 μm. In between, near the 0.3 μm MPPS, diffusion and interception predominate.

The filter resistance to flow is known as its pressure drop.
